Hanover Area Historical Society Museum Committee Winter 2009 - 1010

The Museum Committee and its component sub-committee, the Photographic Committee have been busy in the continued task of organizing our object and document collections and mounting new and interesting exhibits. The most recent advances are in the Clausen Flag Collection, the Photographic Collections and the "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall. . . ." mirror exhibit at the Neas House.

The Photographic Committee now has three members, Dick Crouse, Don Jamison and Ann Black. They are hard at work integrating our new document and image storage equipment with our image collection. The new equipment now allows us to catalog, identify and properly store our images for future research, sale and historical reference. To assist us in the identification of the thousands of images in our collection that are unidentified, the Committee has mounted a small display board with photos needing identification at our booth at the Hanover Market House.

The Clausen Flag Collection is seeing a new burst of activity in its new storage facility. Two custom racks have been made to hang the flags in historical chronological order which is a vast improvement in the previous method of their storage. Recent displays of selected flags were made during the Independence Day celebrations and more are planned in the future.

Our newest object exhibit "Mirror, Mirror On the Wall . . . ." began in October and runs through December 2009. Over thirty mirror and mirror related objects are on display in the exhibit space in the Neas House. The exhibit was given an important boost in publicity by being featured on the front page of the October 17, 2009 edition of the Antiques and Auction News.

As always, we are eager to accept new members of all of our committees to assist us in the care, preservation and exhibition of Hanover's history. Call us today!
