The Terra Cotta Warriors and the Woodrow Wilson Home: Saturday, November 21, 2009
Nearly 2,000 years ago, thousands of life -sized clay figures were buried in massive underground pits. Soldiers, Charioteers, Archers, Musicians, Generals, Acrobats, all stood ready to accompany China's first emperor into the afterlife. Their discovery in 1974 is one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. With nearly 100 objects, including 15 life-sized figures, this exhibition is the largest group of fragile terra cotta figures and significant artifacts to travel to the United States from China.
In addition to the temporary exhibit at National Geographic Museum, past and current expeditions, adventures, and scientific research come to life. Allow time to enjoy some of the permanent and interactive displays that reflect the richness of our world. Unique products and gifts are also available in the National Geographic Store. This would be an ideal place to do some early Christmas shopping.
